About this piece
The best part of these ancient Burmese stone beads is their extraordinary history spanning over 1,000 years of cultural significance. Pumtek beads of Myanmar were crafted by the Pyu people, a peaceful Buddhist group renowned for producing the finest petrified wood beads during their prosperous era. These rare beads, also known as buried thunderbolt beads, represent a fascinating window into the artistic traditions of Southeast Asia.
Pumtek Bead of Myanmar (Burma) Pyu/Samon Valley beads represent some of the most celebrated treasures from the hilltribe regions. The origins of these beautiful rare beads begins over 1000 years ago. Made by the Pyu people, a Buddhist cultural group characterized as peaceful and affluent. The Pyu people made the finest petrified wood beads and the decline of the Pyu period is parallel to the decline in the quality of bead production.
In Burma the beads are referred to as Chin beads, beads originating in the Chin province in the North West of Burma (Myanmar). Pumtek beads are made from Burmese petrified wood, creating naturally durable and beautiful pieces that have survived centuries. The decorated stone beads showcase remarkable craftsmanship with intricate detailing that reflects the artistic sensibilities of ancient Southeast Asian artisans.
This lot contains 8 south asian Burmese old pyu pumtek animal figurine stone beads pendants that showcase the traditional aesthetic and quality of authentic Pyu-era work.
